Blainville is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec and is located 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest of downtown Montreal.
The idyllic setting and small town environment makes for a sharp contrast with the booming urban centre next door. Blainville sits right at the foot of the Laurentians, an ancient Canadian mountain range. The small community often serves as a satellite for Montreal's working professionals with opulent homes and some of the priciest real estate in the area.
This is a major golfing community and proximity to the golf course often reflects the price of land. Tourists come to Blainville for the outdoor recreational opportunities such as cross country skiing. A network of trails lies to the north. The local hotels are often full of ski enthusiasts from surrounding regions. The suburb is also the headquarters of the Boreale Microbrewery . The company takes pride in its outlying location and holds events at various locations promoting its beverage and the tight knit community's values. Visitors may also want to absorb the local ambiance at the Galerie d'art de Blainville, which is located in the Town Hall and library building. Regional artists' work are featured in a variety of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, pottery and drawings.
Blainville has the greatest population increase in the Laurentides area. The population increased by 57.1% between 1996 and 2006. According to the Official Gazette of Quebec (december 2010), it has a population of 52,525.
